PhoenixMart is partnering with Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) to help better equip Casa Grande Middle School with a new mobile computer lab, a charging and security cart and related expenses as part of the Casa Grande STEM Academy Program.
PhoenixMart will donate the first $10,000. Remaining donations of $25,000 will be provided by various “Friends of PhoenixMart” to meet the $35,000 total needed.
The Casa Grande STEM Academy is committed to bringing high quality STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to the students in Casa Grande. Their goal is to teach both computer-aided drafting and computer programming skills to deliver better engineering and technology instruction and encourage students to develop interest to pursue these careers.
A new mobile lab will help enable them to do just that and put more “T” in the STEM program!
A perfect example of what will be offered with the new lab would be teaching design and fabrication as part of the Science/Engineering class. By offering CAD (computer aided drafting) via TinkerCad and Sketch-up (free cloud-based programs) students could create a car design, use a 3-D printer to fabricate the design and then conduct physics experiments with their creation.
The mobile lab will also float between the language arts, math, and science classrooms depending upon which part of the STEM program they are working on.
